To be extremely brief, Ohio State
Reformatory in Mansfield, OH, was
constructed from 1886 until 1896 when it
was opened.  Prior to being a prison, the
grounds were used as a Civil War camp.
The reformatory was in operation for 94
years until it was deemed unfit to be used
as a prison facility.
It has since been the location of the filming
of such movies as The Shawshank
Redemption, as well as several music
videos by bands such as Godsmack.  Also,
many stories of  paranormal activity,
concerning full bodied apparitions and
physical contact, are spread throughout
this place.  View the full history and details

PROOF learned of an opportunity to spend
the night in this castle-like structure.  We
could not pass this up, and took the 4 hour
ride to Mansfield, OH to investigate for the
night.  We had high hopes of capturing
evidence of a haunting in a place with such
history.
Keeping yourself calm and not letting your
surroundings get the best of you is key
when investigating.  In a place like this, it
can be a bit more difficult, but it is
important not to let your mind wander,
and treat this just like any other building.
Once you are able to do this in a place like
this, you can objectively investigate.
For almost 8 hours, PROOF wandered the
pitch-black, bat filled building.  Constant
EMF readings were taken, with no unusual
spikes to be recorded.  No pictures
showing solid evidence were found, out of
a total of over 500.  Temperature readings
were also stable throughout the evening.
The hour or so of video we were able to
shoot also showed nothing whatsoever.
Around an hour and a half total of audio
was recorded, showing no signs of EVP.
Also reported in this building are people
being touched, as well as having their hair
pulled.  We had no choice but to write this
off, as we were bombarded by bats for the
entire evening.  This could easily have been
mistaken for a touch, or quick pull of the
hair.
Perhaps PROOF will make another trip to
Mansfield in the future, but for now, have
seen no evidence presented that would
make us say this building was haunted.
However, this was indeed an excellent time!
