For any paranormal investigator, a camera is a must have. PROOF members use infrared, digital, as well as standard photography, in an attempt to detect paranormal activity. Any camera can work, but digital technology offers its obvious advantages economically.
Audio recording devices come in handy when investigating. These are used for capturing EVPs. People often argue about using either analog or digital audio recorders. PROOF utilizes both of these devices, and both seem to work just fine. Digital makes things a bit more simple though.
EMF detectors detect fluctuations in the electromagnetic field. Disturbances in the field may indicate possible spirit activity, but the user must be careful, as many electronic items can produce waves that will set an EMF detector off.
A camcorder is another luxury type item that can be done without, yet is great to have around. PROOF uses digital technology, but a regular camcorder can be a great tool. Note: Any Sony line of digital camcorders with NightShot Plus technology is recommended.
Infrared cameras are a great thing to have around, although not a necessity at all. These allow PROOF members to see in the complete darkness, and allow us to record this as well. Infrared picks up things that the human eye could never see, even in total daylight, making this an interesting tool.
Digital thermometers come in handy for detecting cold spots, which are thought to be brought about by spirit activity. Infrared thermometers, as shown in one example here, are available, but not necessary. A slightly less luxurious thermocouple based digital indoor/outdoor thermometer (seen above on the right) can do the trick.
A computer as well as an audio editing program such as shown, are also very handy for storing results, as well as cleaning up possible EVP files on your recorder. These are also not exactly necessities, but becoming them very quickly these days.
Remember, your best tools are always open eyes, ears, and mind. Have fun and be safe if you are planning on investigating on your own!! Always remember that PROOF is here to do it for you, and FOR FREE!
